A crowdfunding campaign that bridges the past and present of acupuncture: get to know AcuRate's proposal

When you think of acupuncture, it’s logical that the first thing that comes to mind is ultra-fine needles, but there’s much more to it. This age-old technique isn’t something anchored in time: it continues to advance and draw from the latest technologies. And AcuRate (University of Porto, Portugal) proves this with its idea, one of the 20 chosen by a jury to launch its crowdfunding campaign with the support of Santander X Explorer.

This digital platform is designed to integrate the results of acupuncture clinics (and other related disciplines) that join the project. The goal is to first organize this data using artificial intelligence and then analyze it using contemporary epidemiological methods. In this way, the centers will be informed about advances in this specialty and will be able to compare results, thus encouraging them to improve their techniques or to acquire certain skills or tools that they may lack.

The minds behind this idea, Maria and Edmundo, explain that “peer comparison is impossible in acupuncture, as it depends on validated standardized questionnaires and a global system that integrates them. By joining us, centers will improve clinical decisions and outcomes in their patients, as well as streamline consultation management.”
